Costume jewelry… something else I love
While I’m down with the flu here I will let you take a peak at something else I love. Here are some of my vintage brooches dating from the thirties, forties and fifties. I bought my first one on Ebay while looking at new stuff to buy for a gift. Once you buy one you’re hooked. Price can range between as little las 1 dollar (plus shipping) to whatever you’re willing to pay, but for 10-20 dollars you can buy some really neat things! Shipping to Spain with Global Priority is usually less than 10 dollars.
I just love the exhuberance of these brooches, the craftsmanship, the attention to detail… and they look all the better if you’re also wearing a hat.
One of the nice things I love about the brooches is searching for the corresponding patent. Patent search is open to anyone by just visiting www.uspto.gov. You need to install a free plug-in to view the tiff images but that’s about it. Searching for patents is not easy, it’s possible to use categories, but until you click on the patent number you have no idea of what will come up… but that’s part of the beauty. Check these three patents for three of the above broches:
Sooooooo pretty! They look great ON hats as well. K Q:-)

Jill, It quickly turns into an obsession, so I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone! Fortunately my brooch collecting and patent searching phase is over (for a while at least!)

[…] had tried to find hat design patents before (after all, I did a lot of reaserch for my brooches) but at that time I was not able to find […]
